Welcome to Mountainfeet
We're a specialist mountain sports shop with a keen interest in walking, climbing and running footwear together with the mechanics of the feet and lower limbs.
We think it's paramount that mountain enthusiasts understand the importance of foot health and choice of footwear. We sell all manner of outdoor clothing and equipment but particularly specialise in footwear and expert fitting.
If you're thinking of paying us a visit from a distance away then why not ring us first on 0161 620 3900 to make sure we can help you out.
What have the boys been up to?
Marcus has recently returned from a whistle stop climbing trip to Yosemite in the USA a humbled man!
Despite operating at a very useful level grade-wise in the UK and Alps, he found the sheer scale of the granite walls quite phenomenal not to mention intimidating at times. But what really opened his eyes were the 20 foot bolt spacings on some of the Tuolomne Meadows routes which brought on a few attacks of 'disco knee' - a well known climbers affliction when faced by the possibility of a 40 foot 'whipper'!!
Luckily, Marcus's ropemate was the eminent Ian Carr – veteran of several trips to the vicinity. With his mentoring, our man's confidence grew enabling the team to tick many memorable routes. Get the full SP from Marcus next time you're in the shop...
Si's off to Dahab in Egypt on a diving and windsurfing trip. Since he only gets chance to windsurf about once a year, you can find him out most evenings frantically trying to get fit for the four hours of battering he's no doubt going to get!
The trip is run by the excellent Datchet Water Sports Centre who despite having a questionable taste in T shirt colours, offer expert tuition in windsurfing and sailing. If you fancy next years trip then contact them direct or speak to Si.
Phil's become a DIY bore for the time being as you're more likely to find him painting his new flat than cragging. But the novelty value of being a man of property will soon wear off and since the weathers turned cold he's been pining for Scotland and sharpening his ice tools.
Early season ski touring package deals
Ring and talk
to Si if you're looking for a mega-deal on a pair of Rossignol Bandit 78 or 83's for touring on...
We can do a complete package deal with Fritschi Freeride bindings and Coltex skins to get you motivated for the coming season. Si has toured extensively on the Bandit and really rates it for its combination of lightweight and superb performance.
Got one pair of Movement Red Apple 71's left in a 178cm we can let go for £185.00 – let us know if you need a binding or skins with them.
Don't wait too long to nail a deal – we don't have much stock and the prices of skis and bindings have gone up this season just like most other things!
Asics and Inov8 running footwear in stock
In addition to several models of the excellent Inov8 trail running shoe range, we have also taken delivery of our first Asics model which represents a move into more road suitable footwear.
For the guys, two shoes of interest for serious trail running are the Roclite 295 and Roclite 315. These are more cushioned than the popular but minimalist Flyroc 310 which we also stock and makes them great for training when harder ground or some road might be encountered.
For the girls, we'd recommend looking at the ladies specific Roclite 282 if you are a serious off roader whilst for those of you who mainly stick to the tarmac we have the new Asics Torana 2 which has Gel cushioning at the rearfoot for a really comfortable ride.
STOP PRESS! We've just had delivery of our flagship ladies shoe, the Asics Gel Trabuco which has double gel cushioning and duomax arch support to aid correct pronation without orthotics in place.
For our guys, then we have the mens version of the Torana 2 which is suitable for mild overpronators by virtue of its in built arch support. These shoes are classed as trail suitable shoes but we would be happy pounding the tarmac in them even though they have slightly more aggressive tread patterns than a normal road shoe.
The other shoe, the Roclite 318 GTX, is a great all rounder that can be used for trail running but also functions as a multi-activity shoe and has the added protection of a GoreTex membrane making it ideal for British conditions.
Make sure we have a good look at your feet and running style when you come to try these – we can often spot potential problems that could cause eventual injury and sort them out early.
Why not go Geocaching...
As we supply more GPS units to walkers and climbers, some folk are struggling to get to grips with using the technology. Why not log onto the International Geocaching website and go and explore your locality in greater detail? You'll be amazed at what you find out and more than one of our customers have found themselves hooked after taking a casual look on the internet.
Click on the GPS image above - the link will show you the nearest geocaches to our shop – just put your own postcode in instead and get searching...
Cap's Corner (alias the Dog Blog)
"After spending nearly every weekend in North Wales for the last 12 months, I've finally come home! Spending 4 hours every weekend in the van was not my idea of fun, particularly since Liz has been taking my seat and I've had to ride in the back with no view. Shoddy stuff...
But Si and Liz have been talking about something called fuel costs which I don't understand except that it's made them bring the Laser Vago dinghy back to Glossop to sail which means more walking time for me. Cool!
We had a big Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme evening in the shop which everyone seemed to enjoy but all those legs running around my head freaked me out a bit. I tried to round as many kids as possible up but eventually had to retire to the office for a kip and to snaffle the biscuits that Si thought he'd hidden.
I'm kind of in trouble at the moment because I ate the wheels off the vacuum cleaner last month. I can't help it – there are no sheep in here and I have to keep myself amused somehow...
Come and see me when you get chance. You don't have to buy anything but if you do it'll make sure Si keeps feeding me. (Si told me to say that – he said that we should play the poor starving animal card during hard times...)
Bow wow and ciao for now..."

Please come and see our lad Cap when you visit the shop – if you're lucky he might be in a showing off mood and treat you to some mad behaviour! (Ask about the brush...!!!)
